FBR cancels Saturday holiday in push to meet revenue targets
ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) In a move to meet its tax collection target, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has scrapped the Saturday holiday across all its offices.

According to an official notification issued by the FBR, all Chief Commissioners have been instructed to ensure that offices remain fully operational on Saturdays, as part of efforts to achieve the revenue goals for the fiscal year 2024-25.

The decision comes at a time when Pakistan is facing a tax shortfall of over Rs700 billion in the current financial year. Although the IMF has revised Pakistan’s annual tax target down from Rs12.97 trillion to Rs12.37 trillion, the bar remains high.

FBR officials emphasized the need for strict adherence to official working hours and the implementation of effective, results-driven strategies to boost revenue. A monitoring mechanism is also being activated to track performance and compliance.

The directive takes effect immediately and will remain in force until June 30, 2025.
