As part of the move to restrict Pakistani content in India, the government in India imposed restrictions on Instagram accounts of Pakistani celebrities.
When Indian users attempt to view their profiles, they are met with the message: “Account not available in India. This is because we complied with a legal request to restrict this content.”
Earlier this month, India also blocked access to 16 Pakistan-based YouTube channels, along with several YouTube channels that hosted Pakistani drama serials.

Pakistani dramas have cultivated a massive fan base in India over the years, loved for their emotionally driven plots, relatable characters, and concise episode formats.
The cross-border popularity of shows like Zindagi Gulzar Hai, Humsafar, Mere Humsafar, and Tere Bin has made them household names since the trend took off in 2016.
These digital restrictions come shortly after a deadly attack in Pahalgam, in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed over two dozen lives.
In its aftermath, a few Pakistani celebrities, including Mahira Khan and Hania Aamir, posted brief condolences on social media.
While there has been no official statement from the Indian government regarding the Instagram restrictions, the timing has led to speculation that the move may be linked to the recent diplomatic fallout.
Earlier, India banned 16 Pakistani YouTube channels, including major news outlets and famous content creators. India accused them of spreading false narratives and provocative content.
