
The hearing was held before Additional Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka, during which the indictment was read out to the accused. But Umar Hayat pleaded not guilty and rejected all the allegations as "false and baseless.
During the hearing, the court directly asked the suspect if he had murdered Sana Yousaf. Hayat stoutly replied in the negative, denying any involvement in the crime. The judge also questioned him about allegations that he had stolen the victim s mobile phone. The suspect again denied the accusation, terming it as fake and utterly false.
Following arguments from both parties, the court suspended the case to September 25, instructing the prosecution to submit its witnesses and evidence at the next sitting.
The case, which has held the attention of the general public and the media, had first been lodged at Sumbal Police Station.

As per the First Information Report (FIR), Sana Yousaf was gunned down and Umar Hayat was later arrested as the main suspect. The police officials have stated that they have amassed major evidence against him, including the statements of witnesses and forensic results.
