
Punjab Transport Secretary Dr. Ahmad Javid Qazi announced that 27 electric buses for Lahore will arrive at Karachi Port on January 15.
Under the plan, during the first phase of the programme, these environmentally friendly electric buses will operate on two routes.
Dr. Qazi mentioned that Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar Khan will oversee the arrival of the e-buses at Karachi Port this week. He also stated that the buses were procured from China, and the purchase process has now been completed.
According to details, the buses will reach Lahore on January 21, where they will be unveiled before commencement of operations on January 31. To introduce the e-buses on two routes, government officials start preparations. The routes include Canal Road and the Railway Station to RA Bazaar and the other has not unveiled yet.
It is pertinent to note that each electric bus, costs Rs88 million, with 12 years operational lifespan. The total cost for the 27 buses amounts to Rs2.46 billion.
