
The private airline company has submitted an application to the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) for a Regular Public Transport (RPT) licence. Initially, the airline will lease three aircraft. The Air Karachi appointed Former Southern Commander (retd) Air Vice Marshal Imran as its CEO.
According to sources within the PCAA, after seeking approval from the federal government, the aviation authority will make final decision regarding issuance of the RPT license to Air Karachi.
As the airline has already been registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), it will be able to start its operations after obtaining licence.
Earlier, Karachi’s business community indicated the launch of the new airline.
Air Karachi will start operations with an initial investment of Rs5 billion, with each shareholder contributing Rs50 million, Hanif Gohar, a business from Karachi said.
Key shareholders of Air Karachi include Arif Habib, SM Tanveer, Bashir Jan Muhammad, Zubair Tufail, Aqeel Karim Dhedhi, Hamza Tabani and Khalid Tawab.
Media reports state that three local airlines including Jet Green, Q Airways, and Go Green Air have approached the PCAA for licences and permits last year. Moreover, Air Indus also approached the PCCA to resume flight operations.
Q Aviation and Liberty Air, have also applied for licences from the CAA to start operations in Pakistan.
