LAHORE: (Web Desk) Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has called on the people of Punjab to join a public rally set to take place on April 27 at Minar-e-Pakistan.

He announced that a new alliance, Ittehad-e-Ummat, is being formed to unite religious and political forces.

Maulana Fazl made the announcement during his visit to Jamaat-e-Islami’s (JI) headquarters at Mansoora, where he was warmly welcomed by JI head Hafiz Naeemur Rehman.

During the meeting, the JUI-F leader offered his condolences to the JI leadership on the passing of senior party figure Professor Khurshid Ahmad.

While addressing the media, Maulana Fazlur Rehman underscored the urgent need for unity in support of the people of Gaza. “Much more can be achieved if we act together,” he said, questioning why national leadership has failed to fulfill its responsibility toward the Palestinian cause.

He added that religious parties from across Pakistan would join the upcoming rally. Downplaying concerns over any Israeli influence within Pakistan, he remarked, “Even if a small Israeli lobby exists, it has no real impact.”

He also criticized the federal government for initiating canal construction projects without consensus among the provinces, arguing that such steps should involve mutual agreement.

On constitutional matters, Maulana Fazl noted that political parties hold diverse views on amendments. “We never claimed that the 26th amendment was perfect,” he said, adding that JUI-F and JI share similar concerns about electoral rigging.
