The Punjab government has approved new uniforms for Lahore Traffic Police, which will be officially introduced from February 14, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz confirmed. The initiative marks the first phase of a province-wide rollout to modernize the police force’s appearance and operational efficiency.
In the first phase, Lahore traffic wardens will don the new uniforms, while the second phase will see traffic police in Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Multan, and Rawalpindi adopting the updated attire. The third phase will extend the uniform upgrade to all remaining districts across Punjab.

Alongside the uniform revamp, Punjab is introducing electric patrol vehicles linked to the Safe Cities Authority. These vehicles aim to reduce fuel consumption, increase operational efficiency, and promote environmentally friendly policing. The electric cars are equipped with advanced surveillance systems, including PA systems, police lights, 360-degree cameras, and speed detection tools.
CM Maryam Nawaz recently inaugurated Pakistan’s first Green Police Unit, featuring state-of-the-art electric patrol cars. She personally tested the BYD electric vehicle, which offers a 410-kilometer range per charge and is designed for Lahore traffic patrolling. The electric vehicles are expected to significantly cut monthly fuel consumption of around 28,000 liters, saving approximately 7.42 million rupees for the government.
Officials noted that the combination of new uniforms and electric patrol vehicles demonstrates the government’s commitment to modernizing policing, enhancing efficiency, and promoting sustainability in Punjab.
