ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): The Government of Pakistan has decided to make an important change in Pakistani passports, under which it will now be mandatory to include not only the father's name but also the mother's name on newly issued passports.

According to a spokesperson for the Directorate General of Passports and Immigration, the decision aims to align with international standards and consider current social demands.

The spokesperson said that in many countries of the world, the mother s name is already part of the passport, so this process is being implemented in Pakistan as well to further improve the credibility of documents globally.

This change will not only apply to new applicants but also include the mother s name on renewed passports. This decision will bring more transparency in the identification of citizens and improve the acceptance of travel documents.

On the other hand, the question is also being discussed at the public level whether people holding old passports will have to get new passports. In this regard, the spokesperson clarified that existing passports will remain usable until their expiry date, the new policy will apply only to newly issued or renewed passports.

Citizens say that this initiative is not only a positive development but also an important step towards strengthening Pakistan s documentation system globally.
