Karachi’s traffic police have revealed that many motorbike riders in the city are successfully avoiding the electronic challan system by using different tactics. According to DIG Traffic Pir Muhammad Shah, the e-challan system introduced to control traffic violations is being widely bypassed by motorcyclists.
Speaking in an exclusive conversation, the traffic chief said that a detailed survey was conducted to understand how riders are avoiding traffic penalties.
During the survey, traffic authorities checked a sample of 100 motorcycles to see how many riders were following traffic rules and properly displaying number plates.

The findings surprised officials. According to DIG Traffic, more than 70 percent of the motorcycles had no number plates at all.
He added that over 20 percent of the bikes had their number plates covered using different tricks to hide them from traffic cameras.
In some cases, motorcycles did have number plates, but the information linked to those plates was incorrect. Some number plates were also damaged or unreadable, making it difficult for the system to identify the vehicle.
The DIG Traffic said the survey showed that almost every motorbike in the sample was somehow trying to avoid the e-challan system.
Because of these findings, traffic authorities have decided to launch a large operation against violators.
Pir Muhammad Shah said the decision was taken on the instructions of the Inspector General of Police, Sindh.

The crackdown will begin after Eidul Fitr and will target riders who are violating traffic laws, especially those without proper number plates.
Officials believe strict action is necessary to improve traffic discipline and ensure that the e-challan system works properly.
