The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced a Rs2200 subsidy for registered motorcycle owners following the recent increase in petrol prices in Pakistan. The move aims to provide financial relief to millions of riders affected by rising fuel costs.
According to provincial authorities, the relief package will benefit approximately 1.4 to 1.6 million registered motorcycles across the province. Each eligible motorcycle owner will receive Rs2200 in financial assistance under the newly announced support program.
Petrol Price Hike Triggers Subsidy Program
The announcement was made by KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, who criticized the recent increase in petroleum product prices by the federal government. He said the subsidy program is designed to reduce the financial burden on citizens who rely heavily on motorcycles for daily transportation.
The chief minister described the fuel price hike as a major challenge for the public and said the provincial government will bear the entire cost of the subsidy scheme to protect low- and middle-income citizens from rising fuel expenses.
Millions of Riders to Benefit
Officials stated that motorcycles remain the most common mode of transportation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, particularly for workers, students, and small business owners. With petrol prices increasing sharply, many families have struggled to manage transportation costs.
The government estimates that the Rs2200 subsidy program will directly benefit up to 1.6 million motorcycle owners across the province.

No Fare Increase for BRT System
Despite the rise in fuel prices, the KP government also announced that fares for the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system will remain unchanged. Authorities said the decision was taken to ensure that public transport users are not further burdened.
The chief minister urged federal authorities to reduce government expenditures instead of increasing fuel prices, stressing that provinces should be consulted before such major economic decisions are made.
How Motorcycle Owners Will Receive Rs2200
While the subsidy amount has been confirmed, the government has not yet announced the exact mechanism for distributing the Rs2200 payment. Officials said the funds could potentially be transferred through bank accounts or a system similar to the Ehsaas Program, but final details will be revealed later.
Authorities advised motorcycle owners to keep their vehicle registration records updated to ensure eligibility once the subsidy distribution process begins.
