MIRPUR (Web Desk): Bangladesh started the ODI series with a powerful performance, defeating Pakistan by eight wickets in the opening match played in Mirpur.

The star of the match was young fast bowler Nahid Rana, who produced an outstanding spell to destroy Pakistan’s batting lineup.

Rana claimed his first five-wicket haul in one-day internationals. He finished with remarkable figures of 5-24 and played a key role in bowling Pakistan out for just 114 runs. Pakistan’s batting struggled from the beginning. The team lost wickets quickly and never managed to build a strong partnership.

Nahid Rana tore through the top order, dismissing Sahibzada Farhan for 27, Shamyl Hussain for 4, Maaz Sadaqat for 18, Mohammad Rizwan for 10, and Salman Agha for 5. Pakistan collapsed to 69-5 and failed to recover from the early damage.

Bangladesh captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz also played an important role with the ball. He took three wickets for 29 runs with his off-spin bowling. Senior fast bowlers Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman supported the attack by taking one wicket each.

Pakistan’s only notable resistance came from Faheem Ashraf, who scored 37 runs. However, his effort was not enough to rescue the team, and Pakistan were eventually bowled out in 30.4 overs. This total became Pakistan’s lowest ODI score against Bangladesh, breaking the previous record of 161 set during the 1999 World Cup.

Bangladesh chased the target quickly and comfortably. Opener Tanzid Hasan played a brilliant innings and remained unbeaten on 67 runs from just 42 balls. He built an important second-wicket partnership of 82 runs with Najmul Hossain Shanto, who contributed 27 runs.

Saif Hassan was dismissed early for 4, while Litton Das remained not out on 3 when the match ended. Bangladesh reached the target in only 15.1 overs, taking a 1-0 lead in the three-match ODI series.

The match also marked an important milestone in Nahid Rana’s career. The 23-year-old had taken only five wickets in his first five ODI matches since making his debut in 2024. With this performance, he became only the second Bangladeshi bowler to take a five-wicket haul against Pakistan in ODIs after Mustafizur Rahman’s 5-75 during the 2019 World Cup.
