The government has verified that the 5G spectrum auction process in Pakistan will occur as planned and this will be a significant milestone to the launching of next-generation mobile services in Pakistan.
In the view of the officials, trial run and mock exercises have already been carried out involving participating telecom operators to make sure the process recorded is smooth.
In one of the briefing sessions, the Minister of Information Technology and Telecommunication of Pakistan Shaza Fatima Khawaja claimed that the auction has been tailored to win over telecom companies, the government as well as the consumer.
She noted that several demands from telecom operators had been addressed, reducing their financial burden while encouraging participation in the auction.
The government will auction almost 600 megahertz (MHz) of spectrum comprising of four new bands.
Telecom firms will also be obligated to purchase a minimum of 100 MHz each which should greatly increase the spectrum capacity within the country.
Pakistan, according to policy makers, is currently only running on 274 MHz of spectrum which has led to congestion and connectivity problems in its network.
