(Web Desk): Israel has said that Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) navy commander, Alireza Tangsiri, was killed in a targeted air strike.

According to reports, Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said the strike took place on Wednesday night and targeted “senior officers of the naval command.”

He claimed that Tangsiri was killed along with other senior Iranian naval officers, but did not share details about their identities or the exact number.

Katz further said that Tangsiri had been involved in operations related to laying naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz and efforts to disrupt commercial shipping routes.

So far, Iran has not officially confirmed or denied the claim, creating uncertainty about the situation.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also said Tangsiri was playing an important role in plans to block the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil route.

He described the strike as part of close coordination between Israel and the United States.

Despite ongoing backchannel ceasefire efforts reportedly led by US President Donald Trump, Netanyahu warned that Israeli forces would continue targeting sites inside Iran.

The claim has added to rising tensions in the region, with fears that the conflict could expand further.
