Riyadh (Web Desk): Turkiye’s President Tayyep Erdogan visits Saudi Arabia as Turkiye-Saudi ties warm, marking his first trip to the kingdom in more than two years.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived in Riyadh, according to Saudi media, starting an important visit aimed at strengthening relations between the two countries.

Ties between Turkiye and Saudi Arabia have improved steadily in recent years. Both sides are now working together on several diplomatic and regional issues.

Their cooperation includes support for Gaza and backing Syria’s new government after the removal of Bashar al-Assad in 2024.

During the visit, President Erdogan is expected to meet Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. This is his first visit to the kingdom since July 2023, when he toured Gulf countries to seek investment.

There was no official statement on the agenda of the talks. However, Turkiye’s state-run news agency Anadolu reported that discussions would focus on “deepening cooperation” as well as regional and global developments.

After completing his visit to Riyadh, Erdogan is scheduled to travel to Cairo on Wednesday.

The timing of the visit is also important. It comes just days before a possible new round of talks in Turkiye between the United States and Iran, expected on February 6.

An Arab official told AFP that these talks may resume after Iran called for restarting nuclear negotiations and the United States warned of consequences if no deal is reached.

President Erdogan has recently emerged as a key mediator, working to reduce tensions between Washington and Tehran and prevent a wider conflict in the region.
