KARACHI (Web Desk): Renowned senior lawyer Khawaja Shamsul Islam was shot dead while his son was critically injured by an unidentified armed man in Karachi’s upscale DHA Phase 6.

According to police, Khawaja Shamsul Islam had arrived with his son to attend a funeral when an unidentified armed man in shalwar kameez suddenly opened fire and escaped on a motorcycle. The attacker was wearing a mask, making it difficult to identify him.

Rescue officials confirmed that bullets struck Khawaja Shamsul Islam in the stomach, while his son was hit in the back. Both were rushed to a nearby private hospital. Unfortunately, the lawyer succumbed to his injuries, while his son is currently under treatment.

DIG South Asad Raza stated that initial investigations suggest a personal dispute could be the motive, but other angles are also being explored. The police recovered two bullet shells and one live round from the crime scene.

Khawaja Shamsul Islam was a prominent and active legal figure, having handled over 500 civil cases, including billion-rupee property disputes. He was also representing the controversial case involving Fatima Jinnah’s residence, Mohatta Palace, which was being proposed to convert into a girls’ hostel and dental college.

It is important to note that this is not the first attack on him — he had survived an assassination attempt in November 2024 as well.

This brazen daylight attack in one of Karachi’s most secure areas raises serious concerns about lawyers’ safety, the influence of high-stakes cases, and urban crime escalation. Given his involvement in billion-rupee property matters and controversial heritage cases, many questions arise: Was this a personal feud, or is a powerful hand trying to silence him? The city waits for answers.
