The new institute, called the National Institute of Technology (NIT), will start classes in fall 2025. It will offer two main study areas: Management Sciences and Data Sciences & Information Technology, with a world-class American curriculum that’s adapted to fit local culture and needs.
This exciting project is being led by two Pakistanis: Shahzeb Awan, a UK-trained lawyer, and Jahanzeb Burana, a Harvard finance expert. The deal was signed at ASU’s campus in the U.S. back in April 2025, and it’s been making waves ever since.
Students will not only get access to ASU-level education in Pakistan but also have the chance to earn dual degrees from both ASU and NIT. They can even transfer or study abroad at ASU campus in the U.S. or through its global network of 30-plus partner universities.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who met ASU officials in July, called it a “game-changer” for Pakistani students, saying it will help young people succeed both at home and abroad.
This move is more than just opening a campus; it’s a shift in how international education is delivered in Pakistan. By bringing ASU directly to Lahore, students can now get a global degree without leaving home and with the option to go abroad later. It also brings jobs, academic growth, and worldwide recognition to Pakistan’s higher education.
The launch of NIT reflects a big step toward modern, industry-driven learning that prepares Pakistani students for real opportunities in tech, business, and global markets. It’s a proud moment and a strong message that Pakistan is ready to compete globally.
