The major train accident occurred today when six bogies of the Islamabad Express derailed near Kala Shah Kaku, situated between Sheikhupura and Muridke. The train was travelling from Lahore to Islamabad when it derailed near Nullah Dek.
According to sources, three bogies overturned, while a total of six coaches left the track. Passengers onboard were thrown into chaos, with many beginning rescue efforts on their own as they waited for emergency teams to arrive.
Eyewitnesses said no immediate help reached the site, forcing stranded and injured passengers to assist one another. Videos from the scene show individuals pulling others from overturned compartments.
Eventually, Rescue 1122 and police teams reached the site and launched a coordinated relief operation. Six rescue vehicles were deployed, and emergency workers administered first aid on-site, while the seriously injured were moved to nearby hospitals.
Officials confirmed that over 25 people sustained injuries, but fortunately, no fatalities have been reported so far.

Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi took immediate notice of the incident. He directed the Railways CEO and divisional superintendent to reach the site without delay and expedite medical and rescue operations.
Abbasi also ordered a formal inquiry, demanding that a detailed report be submitted within seven days to determine the cause of the derailment and prevent future incidents.
This derailment highlights persistent safety concerns in Pakistan’s railway infrastructure. While no lives were lost, the incident reflects lapses in emergency response timing and track safety standards. With the minister now calling for a report, the public awaits answers — and hopefully, reforms.
